The right to quarry and work the pipestone was reserved for American Indians by treaty in 1858. No two stems and bowls are alike. The workmanship is excellent and each bowl usually bears the name or initials of its maker. These all can be smoked. PLEASE NOTE: All sizes are approximate. The longer the stem; the longer, higher and wider the bowl. As an example we list here the comparative bowl & stem sizes for the CP-9's. CP-9-15: (Overall 15") Bowl 4 1/2" long, 2 1/2" high. Stem 11 1/2". CP-9-23: (Overall 23") Bowl 6 1/2" long, 3" high. Stem 16 1/2". CP-9-30: (Overall 30") Bowl 7 1/2" long, 4" high. Stem 22 1/2". SOAPSTONE PIPES IN AUTHENTIC STYLES For those on a budget, these functional pipes are the perfect alternative to the genuine Catlinite pipes presented above. The pipes can be hung as a decorative wall piece, and they make lovely gifts or presentation pieces. The bowls are made of hand-carved soapstone in authentic styles. Stems are stained and finished and approximately 19" long and 1" in diameter. |
